Scientific paper

We introduce the $\alpha,\beta$-symmetric difference derivative and the
$\alpha,\beta$-symmetric N\"orlund sum. The associated symmetric quantum
calculus is developed, which can be seen as a generalization of the forward and
backward $h$-calculus.
