A review is presented of theoretical and experimental results of convection studies in a horizontal plane fluid layer rotating along a vertical axis. The results are related to the origin of motions, their spatial scale, classification of the regimes of the convective motions, regular or irregular. The last can be subdivided onto geostrophic motions when the rotation influence is determining and the usual thermal turbulence. For irregular motions one can determine the scales of velocity and temperature fluctuations and the temperature spectra. The last is found to be of the universal shape in special coordinates. The heat transfer through the layer is also discussed. The following objects are considered: the atmospheric boundary layer, ocean, magma chambers within the Earth's mantle, liquid Earth's core, Jupiter's atmosphere and interior, Sun's atmospheric granulation, accretion discs, neutron stars, i.e. pulsars, and the motion regimes are determined for them. In the geostrophic convection regimes one can find motions in the Earth and Jupiter interiors, fast rotating pulsars, accretion discs for which the velocity and temperature scales are determined together with some other characteristics. For the rest of the objects under consideration the rotation influence is not large. Large scale motions are also considered in the atmospheres of neutron stars and characteristics of the general circulation in their atmospheres are estimated.
