We will discuss new developments in experimental attempts to detect cosmic microwave background temperature fluctuations. After anisotropy power spectrum, the experimental focus is on the detection of polarization signal and small-scale temperature fluctuations, for example, associated with the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect in unresolved galaxy clusters and the weak gravitational lensing effect on CMB due to large scale structure. We will outline several cosmological and astrophysical applications of such observations. Finally, we will explore an ultimate goal for CMB experiments involving the detection of long-wavelength stochastic background of gravitational waves associated with inflation. The detection of inflationary gravitational waves will allow a direct measurement of the energy scale of inflation.
