We investigate energetic particle fluxes from the HEO, GOES, and Solar, Anomalous, and Magnetospheric Particle Explorer (SAMPEX) satellites over the period from 1998-2008 during times of solar energetic particle events (SEPs) when electron and proton particle injections are observed in the inner magnetosphere. These injections result from transient forcing of the magnetosphere and take the form of a movement of the boundaries of the radiation belts or the creation of new belts. Our analysis period covers a long baseline of varying solar activity, which spans both a minimum and a maximum in solar cycle 23. In cases geomagnetic storm activity, we classify whether the storm occurs in association with an SEP event, a co-rotating interaction region (source of interplanetary shocks), and/or an interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) to characterize the accompanying solar wind and geomagnetic conditions. We determine whether the particle injections have a functional dependence on L-shell, particle energy, or in the case of SEPs and interplanetary shocks, incident particle flux.
