There is no better method for understanding the requirements, limitations, and fundamental concepts of an observational science like Astronomy than through the use of real scientific data in an actual research environment. As an undergraduate English major working on the PLCON Open Cluster Survey (obtaining age, distance and metalicity of open clusters), I will share one student's experience of undergraduate research: the highlights, the interdisciplinary attractions, and the possible implications for future undergraduate studies.
