Magnetic reconnection powers energetic phenomena in astrophysics by initiating the conversion of magnetic energy to plasma energy. Observations and general arguments suggest that astrophysical reconnection occurs on short timescales, but it has been difficult to understand this given the high conductivity of most astrophysical systems. I will discuss some possible mechanisms for fast astrophysical reconnection.
