Photometric and spectroscopic observations indicate the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) cataclysmic variable (CV) candidate 496-083 to be a magnetic CV and/or SW Sex system. Photometry was collected at Manastash Ridge Observatory (MRO) on three different nights in the Harris V and Harris B filters in July and August 2002. Several eclipses were recorded showing this system to have a high inclination and an orbital period of P = 3.24 hours. The eclipse depth is about 2.5 magnitudes in the V filter and about 3.0 magnitudes in the B filter. The SDSS spectrum revealed strong He II, Balmer and He I emission lines and Apache Point Observatory (APO) time-resolved spectra showed component structure which could be consistent with a magnetic CV and/or SW Sex system. The long period and lack of strong circular polarization favors an SW Sex interpretation. No periodicity that would identify the rotation period of the white dwarf was evident in the data. This work was funded by the Mary Gates Endowment for Students, NSF Grant AST-0205875, Washington Space Grant NGT5-40084 and by RRF at the University of Washington.
