The paper presents the analytical theory of the motion of an artificial satellite of Mars in the Martian atmosphere. The theory is based on a spherically symmetrical atmosphere model expressing the height profile of the atmospheric density between 100 and 1000 km. The equations of motion for the changes of the semi-major axis and the eccentricity are integrated over one revolution. The lifetimes of hypothetical orbiters are determined.
