An observational test of models for the spectral distribution of the photoionizing continua of QSOs is proposed. It is suggested that the shape of the calculated spectrum may be compared with observations to test models for the visual, UV, and X-ray emission of QSOs. Several models derived from various studies are reviewed. It is proposed that, if the photoionizing continua extend from a wavelength of about 1 micron to low-energy X-rays, broken power laws will fit the data better than thermal accretion disks.
