Scientific paper

Observational data and theoretical models for WR stars are examined in a general review. The most striking features of the WR spectrum are discussed, with a focus on the role of the gas envelope, and consideration is given to the interpretation of surface abundances, the inner structure of the WR star, scenarios proposed to explain the origin of WR stars, WR-star evolution, the relationship between WR stars and SN, and the more general implications of WR-star studies. Diagrams, graphs, and sample images are provided.
