A sample of 69 O-type stars is presented, and the stellar parameters are derived. The masses are determined by comparison with evolutionary calculations. The radiatively driven wind theory is then used to derive a prediction for the terminal velocity in the stellar wind of these stars. Considerable attention is given to the error bar on this value. Also given are the observed values of the terminal velocity measured from the C IV and N V P Cyg profiles. The comparison shows that the theory overestimates the terminal velocity of main-sequence stars (luminosity class V).
