The luminosity function of H2O masers in the envelopes of OH/IR stars close to the Galactic center was studied and compared with H2O luminosities of OH/IR stars in the Galactic disk far from the center. No clear difference was found between the two luminosity distributions. Taken into account the small number of sources used and the broadening of the distributions due to the flux variability and the distance uncertainty, no definite conclusions could be drawn.
