The diagnosis of cluster potentials using giant luminous arcs is addressed. The properties of the arrival time surface near an arc are considered, and the results of Monte Carlo simulations of two-arc cases for a small quadrupole lens are described and applied to known cases. It is concluded that the distributions of two arc extents can be usefully applied when cluster cores have simple morphology. The extents, together with the arc width, give an estimate of the ellipticity of the lens.
