An analysis of 68 high-resolution IUE UV spectra of HD 50896 obtained at 9 separate epochs during the 1978-1983 period is presented. No evidence is found for the presence of a neutron star companion, and it is suggested that the observed UV profile variations are due to changes which are intrinsic to the WN5 stellar wind. The 46 spectra obtained during 1983 show only small-scale changes when compared to other epochs, and may reflect a period of relative quiescence.
