The objective-prism survey technique is validated as an efficient color-independent means of optically identifying high-redshift quasars. Results are presented for SIT vidicon observations of 27 quasars with redshifts of 1.4 to 2.5, which cover the wavelength range from about 1200 to 1700 A in the rest frame of the objects. For 15 quasars, it is found that the N V/Ly-alpha ratio and the widths of many emission lines vary over a wide range of values, but the C IV/Ly-alpha ratio and the C IV equivalent width are relatively constant. Peculiar features observed in several interesting objects are discussed, and it is suggested that high-redshift quasars probably do not have very low helium abundances.
