Possible forms of equilibrium for the distribution of rotating isothermal interstellar gas in spheroidal galaxies are considered, taking into account nonuniformity and compressibility. It is shown that the possible forms of equilibrium are the same as in the case of a uniform incompressible model (i.e., spheroids, flat disks, parted hyperboloids) if self-gravitation of the interstellar gas is neglected, but that information on the characteristic geometric dimensions of these figures can be obtained by allowing for nonuniformity. The complete small-perturbation frequency spectrum is determined by analyzing small perturbations of a disk-shaped interstellar-gas layer, and the stability of this form is established, particularly with respect to vertical pulsations and slow rotation.
