The modeling and dynamics of asteroids as physical objects is presented. We discuss the morphology of asteroids based on recent observations and space missions. Following this the fundamental models and results for the dynamics of particles and, by extension, spacecraft about asteroids is presented. This topic is expanded to apply to the mechanics of asteroids when modeled as an aggregates of two or more non-spherical bodies that interact gravitationally. Basic results are presented for the motion of such systems. Following this the modeling and effect of thermal forces and torques on asteroids are summarized (the YORP effect). Finally, we discuss the evolution of asteroids when subject to these perturbing conditions, covering such topics as the reconfiguration and fission of aggregates and the creation and stability of binary asteroids.
