Scientific paper

The observations of the planet Venus carried out from 1877 to 1895 by
the Italian astronomer Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli are briefly
summarized. Apart from the incorrect sidereal rotational period of the
planet - which Schiaparelli believed to be synchronous - most of his
conclusions about the nature of Venus are still valid today.
