Results are reported for measurements of the angular distribution of OH absorption in the galactic sources W3, W12, W41, W43, and AMWW52 (G 32.8+0.2), using a radio telescope with a lobe width of 3.4 by 18 arcmin. The one-dimensional distribution of optical depth is obtained for four of the sources, while the two-dimensional distribution is measured for W43. These distributions are found to be characterized by complex kinematic and angular structure resulting from absorption in both extended and compact gas clouds. The compact gas clouds seem to be physically associated with H II regions and molecular maser sources. A compact gas cloud in W41 is discovered which is apparently associated with a supernova remnant as well as with class IIa maser sources radiating in the 1720-MHz line.
