The elements of a nonrelativistic theory of gravity are presented which satisfies the current tests of general relativity and which appears to offer the prospect of successful integration with quantum theory. With a preferred (Euclidean) frame postulated ab initio, a simple explanation in terms of classical physics is found for definitions of m and c. The preferred frame is identified with a real 'ether', thus requiring a return to the Lorentzian interpretation of the special relativistic transformations of space and time variables. It is shown that gravity may be attributed to the action of a temperature gradient in the ether and its origin in terms of an ideal relativistic gas is proposed.
