Foucault's famous pendulum demonstration is documented. We underline the importance of high accuracy of observations, the interdependence of hypotheses and theories, the impact of technological breakthroughs, the role of serendipity, the importance of fast and accurate publishing, and the need for precise science communication and teaching.
