An x-ray observation system with a wide field of view for high energy transient experiment (HETE) and a monitor of all-sky x-ray image (MAXI) are proposed for the Japanese Experimental Module on the Space Station. Both systems require one-dimensional proportional counters. For this purpose one-dimensional proportional counters were developed. Basic tests have been performed on three kinds of proportional counters: proportional counters with resistive wires; proportional counters with backgammon cathodes; and microstrip proportional counters. This paper describes and compares these detectors briefly.
