Quantitative characteristics of surface inhomogeneities at the photospheric and chromospheric levels on EV Lac in 1986 and 1987 are given. A new method for estimating the temperature and area of starspots which determines their temperature independently of their geometry is proposed. While the total area of starspots changes by a factor of 2-3, estimates of their temperature are virtually unchanged. It is argued that large dark starspots in circumpolar zones may be a model-dependent result and may not correspond to the true starspot picture.
