Optical and infrared spectrophotometry of the planetary nebula BD +30 deg 3639 is presented. A number of previously unobserved emission lines redward of 1.1 microns, most of which are permitted lines of carbon, are identified. The ratio of the C III lines 1309 and 8500 A is found to be an effective reddening indicator and yields a value of E(B-V) = 0.28 for the emission-line regions in close proximity to the exciting star, similar to the extinction derived from the hydrogen lines for the more distant nebular gas. The permitted lines of neutral oxygen at 8446 and 13164 A are both detected but O I 11287 A, if present, is very weak, indicating that the excitation mechanism for the O I lines is fluorescence by starlight. Assuming that both the star and the emission-line gas are reddened by E(B-V) = 0.3, the continuum of the central star from 0.5 to 1.3 microns can be approximated by a 13,000-K blackbody, a value much lower than that indicated by the emission lines.
