Analysis and classification of the mechanisms of particle acceleration in close binary systems with compact object have been carried out. The region of ultrahigh energy (UHE) particles generation is shown to be situated in the accretion column of a neutron star. The mechanism of particle acceleration in the accretion column by the electric field of nonlinear magnetoacoustic vortices generated in the accreting plasma with unstable distribution of 'hollow beam'-type is proposed. It is argued that the beam of relativistic particles proves to be essentially collimated. The radius of UHE particle generation is estimated.
