Nova V 1819 Cygni has been observed spectroscopically from 3320 to 10,570 A between days 33 to 44 after maximum light, and in the near IR on days 302 and 398. The measured spectral features are given. The light-curve indicates a distance of about 4.4 kpc. In the diffuse-enhanced phase, the luminosity at maximum visible light is found to be just below the Eddington limit.
