Accurate fluxes and equivalent widths are presented for the H-alpha line in the spectrum of SN 1987A, covering the period between February 25 and June 14, 1987. Four well-defined phases in H-alpha flux evolution are observed, with transitions 4.4 + or - 1.1, 21.4 + or - 1.3, and 93 + or - 5 days after explosion. The mass of hydrogen passing through the photosphere until day 21.4 is estimated at 1.3 + or - 0.3 solar masses. The approximate thickness of the H-alpha emitting shell is found to be 1-5 percent of the corresponding photospheric radius.
