Transmission gratings offer advantages over reflecting gratings, both efficiency and range of wavelengths, in the study of the spectral characteristics of cosmic (nonsolar) X rays. The present paper deals with the application of transmission gratings of X-ray research in the 1 to 10 nm spectral range. Some modern techniques used in the fabrication of transmission gratings are examined, along with test results.
