Scientific paper

A detailed review of the history of investigation of periodic and
secular polar motion is presented. Observations of polar motion made
between 1970 and 1976 by the International Latitude Service and by the
International Polar Motion Service are compared. Recently acquired
evidence for the existence of secular motion is outlined.
