The possibility of using Kruskal's method (1962) to construct a formal third integral of motion in cases of orbital resonance is examined together with the possibility of applying it to stellar dynamics. Explicit expressions for the first three terms in the expansion of the integral are obtained for Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom and unperturbed periodic orbits.
