A detailed, radiative transfer code is used to calculate the heating effects of the X-ray flux from Sco X-1 on its possible companion. Assuming that there is no other source of continuum, the continuum properties of the system are derived, in the wavelength region between 912 A and 26000 A, as functions of the orbital phase, for various system geometries. The effects of changes in the X-ray characteristics are studied. The results are in agreement with observations except, perhaps, the small inclination angle which is obtained and which may be inconsistent with radial velocity measurements. An additional source of continuum is suggested and its effects considered.
