Galactic Center: Astrometry - Astrometry: Galactic Center
Scientific paper
We present a new catalogue of faint astrometric reference stars in the direction of the Galactic Center. The positions and proper motions of 55 stars within an area of 12' × 12' around the Galactic Center are determined relative to 86 PPM stars in the FK5/J2000.0 reference system. The individual rms error of a position at epoch 2000.0 is O".25, the rms error of a proper motion component is ˜".0/century. In comparison to the catalogue available previously this is an improvement by a factor of 4. Positions from the new grid are applied to recently published results from far red and IR imaging of the Galactic Center region in order to discuss the revised location of various stellar sources in the immediate vicinity of the non-thermal compact radio source SgrA*.
