Emission from forbidden Fe II at 1.644 micron and 1.533 micron has been detected in the Galactic center. The spatial and velocity structure of the emission is similar to that of Br-gamma and forbidden Ne II. The dereddened ratio of forbidden Fe II 1.644 micron to Br-gamma emission is about 1, much greater than for a typical H II region but smaller than typically found in supernova remnants. The dereddened ratio of the 1.533 to 1.644 micron emission near the emission peak is 0.33 +/- 0.05, which suggests ne is greater than 100,000/cu cm in the Galactic center.
