Spectra covering the rest from region 5000-6800 A are presented for a sample of 19 IR-selected AGN which contains four low-ionization broad absorption line QSOs (BALQSOs). Statistical tests show no strong differences in emission-line properties between these AGN and a sample of optically selected QSOs. However, a number of properties show significant differences between the four BALQSOs and the remaining objects. The low-ionization BALQSOs have no or very weak forbidden O III emission compared to other objects, indicating that these BALQSOs are not seen along a preferred line of sight but are drawn from a class of objects in which the covering factor of the absorbing material exceeds 10 percent and may approach unity. He I 5876 A is systematically weaker in the BALQSOs than in the non-BALQSOs, suggesting an intrinsic difference in the emission-line regions of the two different classes. THE BALQSOs all have H-alpha lines with large blue asymmetries. Three of the four BALQSOs show Na I D absorption.
