Observations are made of 85 objects listed as unidentified in the equatorial Infrared Catalogue Number 1 (Sweeney et al., 1978). The observations are made in the JHK bands using a 1-m ground-based telescope. All of the sources are detected, and it is noted that many of them have (H-K) higher than those of interstellar reddened M8 giants and that some of them have already been identified with variables. The data available suggest that the sources with (H-K) excess may all be variable. In addition, an attempt is made to identify all the 88 'unidentified' sources on the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey prints. Of these, 85 are identified with optical objects. The magnitudes for these are estimated in the photographic blue (P) and red (R) colors.
