Ultra-Compact Dwarf Galaxies, Observations, Models

Scientific paper

Recently a new type of sub-luminous and extremely compact dwarf galaxy has been discovered in an all-object 2dF spectroscopic survey centred on the Fornax Cluster. Physical properties of these ultra-compact dwarf (UCD) galaxies are now being investigated extensively by the Hubble Space Telescope and large ground-based telescopes. I here present a brief summary of recent observational results of UCDs and introduce our new theoretical model of UCD formation.
