A modeling of the Hipparcos satellite optical system, carried out by the Fundamental Astronomy by Space Techniques (FAST) consortium, is described. The Hipparcos signal structure and the meaning of chromaticity are recalled. The simulation of the performance of the Hipparcos is carried out, taking into account the optical system in its nominal and real configurations. The results of the simulations concerning the modeling of the nominal and real telescope optical elements are provided. The double star signals obtained by complete simulation of light propagation through telescopes are investigated.
