The work performed by the Input Catalog (INCA) Consortium to provide the definitive star list and associated data necessary for the Hipparcos satellite operations and data reductions, is summarized. The catalog unification, and the error identification and correction is discussed. The systematic improvement in ground based astrometric, photometric and double star data for Hipparcos candidate stars, is underlined. The four annex catalog and their contents are listed. The solar system objects included in the catalog are reviewed.
