The set of photometric standard stars, and the requirements to achieve a self consistent photometric system for the Hipparcos mission, are presented. The reduction of the photometric data contained in the main grid and star mapper data streams is effectuated. The magnitude uncertainties concerning the noise of the collected photons, the pointing errors, the errors on the detection efficiency mapping and the drift of the transmission of the optics are analyzed. It is concluded that the applied procedure removes the erratic errors, and preserves the original definition of the magnitude scales.
