The detectors used for Hipparcos satellite are studied. The image dissector tube detector which samples the modulated images of the stars as they cross the main field of view, and the star mapper (photomultiplier) detectors, which sample the entire field of the star mapper, are presented. In the scope of the work, the following topics are included: the main detector assembly, the detection subsystem block diagram, the operating principle of the image dissector tube, and the detection electronics box and signal coding.
