The problem investigated is that of two Schwarzschild black holes of masses m1 and m2 (much less than m1), which are initially at rest on a time-symmetric space-like hypersurface. An asymptotic formula as m2 approaches zero is found for the maximum separation between m1 and m2 such that a connected component of the apparent horizon encloses both m1 and m2. The problem is solved numerically.
