The rotational temperatures of the (0-0) band of the Swan system of C(2) molecules at mu = 1.0 and 0.2 are calculated using solar-observation data from the KPNO atlas of Brault and Testerman (1972). The results are presented in tables and graphs and compared with those obtained with the model atmospheres of Holweger and Mueller (1974) and Vernazza et al. (1976). Good agreement is found at the solar-disk center, but the model temperatures tend to be lower than the observation-based temperatures near the limb. No evidence is found for the temperature increase toward the limb reported by Sinha (1979) on the basis of the observational data of Withbroe (1968).
