In this paper we analysed the distribution and field of sight line velocity with height in the postflare loops of 1982 December 20 and 1981 May 16, using data obtained respectively with the Nanjing solar tower and the Yunnan Hα-SSHG. We found that, when considering the material motion in postflare loops, we must take into account simultaneously gravity, magnetic field gradient and initial velocity of matter at the loop top. Our calculation shows that the motion can be of two types, one accelerating (example, the 1982 loop), the other decelerating (the 1981 loop). In the first type, gravity dominates over magnetic field gradient, in the second, the other way round. Both types of motion can be calculated with the formulae given in this paper, using different initial velocities and magnetic environment.
