The low-frequency plasma turbulence excited by acoustic waves in the solar chromosphere, corona, and supercorona is characterized theoretically using a solar-atmosphere model based on that of Allen (1973), and the mechanisms for the transfer of its energy to the interplanetary medium (as turbulence in the solar wind) are considered. Nonlinear wave interactions and wave-propagation effects are identified as the primary mechanisms, and the levels of maximum damping for slow magnetoacoustic waves and Alfven waves are located at 0.4 and 1.0 solar radius, respectively. Maximum absorption of wave energy is predicted at 1.4 solar radii, corresponding to coronal heating by s-waves, and at about 10 solar radii, corresponding to further acceleration of the solar wind by a-waves.
