A method, recently proposed by Grassberger and Procaccia to characterize the dynamics of strange attractors, can be used to quantitatively measure the number of isolating integrals of galactic orbits. The number of isolating integrals is not restricted to being an integer. The method is based on phase-space correlation functions. The authors show its application to some orbits in typical galactic potentials taken from the literature. They propose that this method be systematically used instead of surfaces of section to study the transition from regularity to irregularity in three-dimensional galactic orbits.
