Spectroscopic observations, covering the λλ3600 - 5000 Å region, of the symbiotic star YY Her are reported. The absorption spectrum of the cool component of the star shows high luminosity features, corresponding to a late G supergiant: tentatively a spectral type G8 Iab is attributed. The velocity of YY Her derived from absorption lines is about -27 km s-1. The emission lines are due to hydrogen, He I, He II, N III, [O III] and [Ne III] etc. The Balmer lines are separated into two components by a deep blue-shifted reversal. The high excitation emission lines are relatively weak. There is a large difference of velocity between different excitation emissions and the two components of the Balmer lines indicating a conspicuous stratification structure of the envelope of this object.
