The characteristics of a hard (greater than 40 keV) X-ray spectrometer
mounted on board Cosmos 428 are described, and some interesting
phenomena observed in the experiment are noted. Particular attention is
given to hard X-ray bursts recorded in the 40 to 70, 70 to 190, and 190
to 290 keV channels on June 24 and 25, 1971.
