Highly sensitive submillimeter observations for 14 Markarian galaxies were obtained at 870 microns. The FIR/submillimeter emission from 100-1300 microns can be successfully modeled by a single dust component with an average temperature of 30 + or - 5 K. The wavelength dependence of the dust opacity is shown to be 2.0 + or - 0.2. A general formula relating the mass/luminosity ratio of dust embedded sources to the minimum temperature of the bulk of the dust is proposed.
