The Japanese National Large Telescope (JNLT) proposed is an optical infrared telescope with an aperture of 7.5 m, promoted by the Japanese astronomers' community. The systematic conceptual study of the JNLT was started in 1984 at the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory by its JNLT working group, of which the present authors are members. The study included optical designs, comparisons among different types of main mirror, mechanical structures, driving and guiding systems, control systems, and dome structure, among others. Particular aspects in this report which may deserve to be discussed at the SPIE meeting are presented.
