The interrelationship of the issues of sensitivity, image centroiding precision, and field-of-view, and how they interact with the SIRTF pointing requirement to determine a fine guidance sensor focal plane configuration, are examined. While the examples are specifically oriented toward SIRTF, this approach is general and can be applied to other CCD-based star sensor systems.
